Espanyol vs Elche News, Stats and Predictions
- Espanyol have won six of their last seven home games
- Elche are without a victory in their last eight away outings in La Liga
- Espanyol have only dropped points at home against teams in the top half of the table
Espanyol turning RCDE Stadium into a fortress
Espanyol had a terrible start to the season on home soil, drawing to Villarreal before losing against Atletico Madrid, but they have since racked up six victories from seven games.
They have still only suffered one defeat at the RCDE Stadium, winning every game they have played against sides in the bottom half of the table and scoring in nine out of ten home fixtures.
Vicente Moreno’s could move into the top half of the La Liga table with three points and they head into the game having never previously been beaten by Elche at the RCDE.
Elche’s away struggles
The 2021/22 campaign has been a real struggle for Elche, with plenty of their problems coming away from home where they have suffered seven defeats in ten games.
They have picked up three recent victories on their travels, but each of them came against lower ranked opposition in the Copa del Rey.
In the league, they have been losing frequently, including reverses against Alaves, Barcelona and Valencia. They have not picked up a single point away from home against teams above 14th place in La Liga.
I cannot see how Elche will turn their form around against a side like Espanyol who are so good at home. I predict a home win, but select 2-1 as a correct score because Elche have generally found a way to stay in games without having anything to show for it.
